We installed this on our 1950's wooden boat and it looks great. The old steering wheel was this hard white plastic that was chipped and cracked. I was thinking of getting the original steering wheel refinished then realized it was a stupid idea and bought a new one instead.This fit perfectly in the boat .Tightened down the retaining nut and it pressed right onto the existing shaft. It looks really good, has a nice feel and is hefty enough to feel solid without being too heavy.The wooden insert for the middle was quite loose but that was extremely minor. I put a bit of RTV silicone sealant (aka caulking) along the edge. Now it's in there good and solid and if I ever need to remove it someday I'll be able to pull it out without damage.Bottom line is that I'm very glad that I bought this. It makes a great addition to our classic wooden boat.
